This Don is gone...

...but definitely not forgotten. A few clips can be found if you look around a bit:

and here's another chunk of Act 1:

These are from the Mezzo TV broadcast, which to me, look and sound like a different performance than the official La Monnaie webcast. Can there please be a commercial DVD release of this (he asked, hoping against hope)?

Meanwhile, for Mezzo Elvira fans, here is her awesome Act 2 aria (sadly, audio only):

  1. I managed to watch half of this, and then put off watching the other half, and then it was gone! I found the concept interesting, the idea that the whole story is this elaborate thing staged for DG, with Elvira sort of dressing up as herself, and Zerlina plucked from the subway in the intro - but I haven't seen Act II, so my opinion is sort of...truncated.

    1. I'm sure it will turn up... erm...somehwere, somehow. I do hope you get to see the rest. In addition to a really interesting production, there's some pretty darned good singing there, too! Yay for La Monnaie!

  2. We seem to be in a sort of golden age for Regie DGs. I'm still wondering about going back to see the Tcherniakov for a 3rd time!

    1. I'd be happy to see it once. Three times may be more than enough. I've seen bits of the production when it was done in Aix-en-Provence. I guess that's actually available on DVD.
