Following Earwormopera Around on YouTube

Lately it seems that every third interesting opera video I click on is posted by none other than the blogger known as Earwormopera, under the nom d'Tube musicalpunchlines

This is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a very good thing*. Clearly, Earworm and I have very similar tastes. In fact, many of my readers may know that I was greatly inspired by the Earworm to start my own blog. (Fans of this blog can thank Earworm. Non-fans can...well, non-fans can do whatever you wantso long as it's not illegal or immoral.)

Since I've been kind of stuck in Don Giovanni-land lately, I'd like to share one of my (many) favorite clips from the Claus Guth production in Salzburg, featuring one of Earworm's and my all-time favorite sopranos: Dorothea Röschmann.

*In fact, the only thing better would be if there were even more clips on the musicalpunchlines channel! (Hint, hint!)

  1. So many reasons to thank the Earworm and RonR :-) And now I think I might just go and watch my DVD copy of this darkness-in-the-woods Don G for the hundredth time...

    1. I really don't need more opera DVDs (just different ones -- maybe we should set up an exchange!) but I do need to get this one.

I bought the M22 boxed set, thinking the Guth DG and Cosi were in it. Not. I like the Cosi (a lot) and the DG (slightly less) that ARE in that set, but I was kind of bummed. OTOH, at that time, the full M22 set cost about the same as buying the Clemenza and Nozze separately--both must haves, as we know. But I digress (as usual!)

    2. Was the boxed set that cheap or where Tito and Nozze that expensive?

    3. Both. The box set was a good price, and Tito was at least 40 bucks at the time (and I think Nozze was close to that too)

(Plus, I thought the other Guth discs were in there, so it looked like a total bargain--the set was going to be cheaper than buying four separate opera DVDs.

Actually it still WAS a bargain. I got the Midridate and Idomeneo, which I probably never would have watched/listened to otherwise. And I like the the Hermann's Cosi, too. --see multipart review somewhere in the early RonR archives)

  2. I would post more clips, but I'm afraid of getting barred from YouTube and losing all my clips! (this is earworm, if it doesn't display right :)

    1. Smart plan! (Says one who's been there!) and yes, you're displaying quite nicely!
