So, it's been three days already, and no sign of the Wozzeck
webcast. Come on, people! Of course, it might have hit the Toob and already
been snatched offline by the vigilant Staatsoper folks. But I won't give up
hope.
Meanwhile, here is a photo from a Don Giovanni performance (also at the BSO) I'd like to have seen/heard. It was taken by Kyle Ketelson and posted at his Skydrive site, along with a whole bunch more photos from the production. If DR in a ski jacket and mask isn't enough for you, you're sure to find something else intriguing when you check out the rest of the photos.

Here's the enticing cast list:
Don

Der Komtur Goran Jurić
Donna Anna Elza van den Heever
Don Ottavio Bernard Richter
Donna Elvira Dorothea Röschmann
Leporello Kyle Ketelsen
Zerlina Laura Tatulescu
Masetto *Tareq Nazmi

Don Ottavio Bernard Richter
Donna Elvira Dorothea Röschmann
Leporello Kyle Ketelsen
Zerlina Laura Tatulescu
Masetto *Tareq Nazmi
(Unfortunately, this was a very short-lived revival: only three performances!)
Meanwhile, there still is time to see a few other operas that are available online. Here are six to choose from:
From Salzburg:
Verdi Don Carlo in the opera house (no end date published)
Mozart Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the airport (no end date published)
From Brussels:
Debussy Pelléas et Mélisande (till November 21)
Donizetti Lucrezia Borgia (till December 4).
From Madrid:
Glass's The Perfect American (till November 28)
Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte (the Haneke production; till December 12)
For more links to opera online, head over to Operacat.
*Tareq Nazmi is a young bass from Kuwait who has a surprisingly dark and mature-sounding voice. He was the impressive bass soloist in last year's National Symphony Messiah performances. I'm looking forward to hearing more from him.
Things that originate in Munich at the Bayerische Staatsoper you should probably plan to see in the live stream. The next one is Frau ohne Shatten on Dec 1.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point. Unfortunately the BSO doesn't take into account the time difference and they end up doing their live streams when I have to work :)
DeleteThis particular company is very nasty about people posting their streams on YouTube. They get people taken down.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I know! It's too bad they won't archive their transmissions for at least a week or so. Ah well! I am in no immediate danger of running out of operas to watch online! :)
DeleteYou'd have to figure out how to download it to your computer while it's streaming. You would only get in trouble with them if you uploaded it to somewhere else.
DeleteVery true...
Delete5 minutes have surfaced:

Thanks!!!
Delete(It's quite dreary, isn't it? On the other hand, it's Wozzeck, so you'd kind of expect that.)
Thanks for the heads-up/
This may be an effect of having woken up far too early this morning, but it took me a moment to register that that photo of DR was in fact DR - but then 1) it made me laugh and 2) I wish I could see the production!
ReplyDeleteMe too, also!
DeleteHere it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbD3-2fH6XY
ReplyDeleteSadly there are some cuts in the video... I would download it as long as it is there.
Thanks for the tip! What a great birthday present.
