More Stabat Mater – Hartelius & Bonitatibus sing Rossini

Not singing the Stabat Mater. (This is Cosi Fan Tutte.)
Malin Hartelius and Anna Bonitatibus sing the beautiful Qui est homo  from the recent radio broadcast performance of the Rossini Stabat Mater, with the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus directed by Franz Welser-Möst.

I never think of Hartelius singing Rossini, but why not? And their voices blend so beautifully. You can hear the whole program at BBC 3's iPlayer for three more days. (This YT clip is audio only. Don't listen to this in the car!)

[2/11/13: Unfortunately, YouTube removed this clip, but you can still hear the entire performance for another 23 hours at the iPlayer. Or check out the Cosi duet in the link above.]

Rossini: Stabat Mater: III. Duet (Soprano I & II)

Quis est homo, qui non fleret,
Who is the man who would not weep
Christi Matrem si videret
if seeing the Mother of Christ
in tanto supplicio?
in such agony?
Quis non posset contristari,
Who would not be have compassion
piam Matrem contemplari
on beholding the devout mother
dolentum cum Filio?
suffering with her Son?
