DR's start in early music always puts her in good stead when singing with countertenors. There's a wonderful Pergolesi Stabat Mater with David Daniels.
I know it well :-) The 1997 René Jacobs recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio has DR paired with Andreas Scholl (and Werner Güra!) and it is wonderful, too.
Thanks for the reminder of that recording. I actually own it, and I really need to sit down and listen to it again! The Stabat Mater I purchased for DD, and didn't really think much about DR till I saw her in the Salzburg Clemenza di Tito (my DR aha moment!)
This was the DVD that really turned me into a DR fan. The emotional commitment in all the performances is so powerful. (Except maybe for Chiumo, who on average I think does a bit more lurking and mustache-twirling and less acting than everyone else.)
I was going to say that Chiumo is better in the other production (which I momentarily forget where it was done, but Andreas Scholl is in it) but then i remembered that that is generally a more mustache-twirling kind of production.
The first time I saw/heard this, it brought tears to my eyes. Their very different singing styles come together so well in this duet, don't they?

DeleteMy DR "aha" moment happened during the Besson Die Zauberflöte. Then I watched the Salzburg Clemenza and I had my DR "wow. Just wow" moment :-)
