Oh yeah, I can see Elvira trying to decide if she wanted less drama in her life, and Leporello trying to decide if he reeeeally wanted less drama in his life.
My other opera fan fic moment is that Leporello is kind of intrigued by Masetto and Zerlina's rough-edged relationship; and maybe Masetto didn't hate dancing with Leporello as much as he said; so M and Z invite L back to their place for supper and...possibly more.
Meanwhile, although I still think Ottavio should talk Elvira into giving him a chance; maybe Elvira and Anna should go out for a wine spritzer and leave Ottavio on his own.
Hi Lucy. Thanks for your reaction. I love speculating on what might happen after the curtain falls. I think the Masetto/Zerlina/Leporello thing could be convincing--especially if the production includes the Leporello/Zerlina duet in Act II where she subdues him and ties him up.
During the descent for Don G. into hell, the screen flashed white from the pyrotechnics and we were all essentially blind to the happenings on stage for a few seconds, my mind was thinking, is Leporello going to come running out of this with his shirt on fire? I know they are professionals who fight during intermission and I am the amateur spectator but this was a case where the stage effects added to the drama for me.
While I am not overly drawn in by this production, I was pleased with the singing/acting last weekend. I agree with you that the "descent" was pulled off quite well.
Except me, I tend to think she's looking past him to Donna Elvira...
ReplyDeleteGood one!! Personally, I was thinking Ottavio should give up on Anna; hire Leporello; and make a play for Elvira.

I just need to say (belatedly) that I love this entire exchange and the theories contained therein.
