Gratuitousness

Gratuitous Friday started as a whimsical approach to the blog tagline. The goal was to get singer names onto the blog—and have something to post in between the “real” reviews.

Then I realized that these posts featuring a single aria or duet are a way to introduce music, a singer, a production, and/or a performance that the reader might not come across in the course of casual web surfing. Here is an index by artist of our gratuitous—and not-so-gratuitous—posts. (Clips that are associated with full opera reviews are not listed here.)

Unfortunately some (many) of the clips referenced at Regie, or Not Regie? are no longer available. Many clips on YT have a lifespan not much longer than that of a fruit fly. As time goes on, I am endeavoring to replace the "disappeared" clips. If you find a dead link that you know has an alternate source, please let me know! Thanks.
