"My last production in La Scala... I think They should engage only Italian singers ... Why I spend my time for this" schmarrn" ... Arrivederci ..."
I hear he and Diana Damrau both were booed at their La Scala Traviata this evening. I'd be annoyed too. But don't the loggionisti boo pretty much everyone?
The production was staged by Dmitri Tcherniakov. Maybe that had something to do with the audience reaction! Meanwhile Mr. Beczala's fans are reacting with sympathy.

I don't think the loggionisti did boo Damrau, actually, but they made their disapproval of Beczala pretty clear. Not sure what he did to earn it. Probably nothing. But he's certainly in good company.
ReplyDeleteYes, good point of clarification. An I think they were mostly booing the production, which Mr. Beczala didn't much like either. I seem to recall he announced he'd no longer take part in "Regie" productions.
DeleteMeanwhile, his new Facebook post (old one seems to be gone) is a bit less grumpy. Poor guy. Nobody ever said being an opera start was gonna be easy!
