Helmut Rilling's
recording of Bach's B-minor Mass is a good representation of the state of
the modern-instrument/HIP hybrid of the 80s (We can tell it's the 80s
from ASvO's haircut, and because Arlene Auger is still singing.) I think if you
search diligently, you can find the entire mass on YT, in bits and pieces. This
is sublime music making.
I can report that as of tonight ASvO is still doing the sublime music-making thing.
ReplyDeleteCool! What and where did you hear her sing?

DeleteWhat a find! And what a Vintage von Otter find!
ReplyDeleteI'll say. I WAS going to call it "Vintage von Otter" but I didn't want to "steal" your tag line :) (I also didn't use Otterphile this time, though I should have.)
DeleteI've seen a VHS of her singing La morte de Cleopatre with (I think) Colin Davis, and her hair is like that, except with a mullet extension in the back. The 80s were quite something. (Oh, and the massive puffy sleeves on the awkwardly tailored dress, naturally.)
