Jonas Kaufmann's Drinking Song (Mahler)

I lost my U-toob account for posting this same performance!

Just sayin'...

...at the same time, I am not sorry it's back!

    1. thanks. Some organizations are quite vigilant about protecting their mechanical rights. And I tend to over-inform, so I was easy to ferret out. Now I know why so many people post there and give abso-effing-lutely no helpful info about the clip.

I thought about rejoining YT with a different email addy, but they had pretty dire warnings about that, so I decided to let it rest. I even wrote a whole blog post about it, but decided some things were better left unsaid in a public forum.

My one regret is I can no longer respond to the stupid comments some people post there. :)

    2. Re: stupid comments - might be for the best :) if you go after everyone who is wrong on the internet . . .

    3. OTOH it'd be a nice distraction from the tedium of job hunting!

  2. Sorry youto lost your account :-(

Your original posting of this clip inspired me to buy the dvd of the concert from Premiere Opera. Kaufmann, Von Otter, Abaddo, Berlin...gotta have it. So, a belated thank you.

I think it's probably a lost cause to respond to the mountain of stupid comments on YT. Much better to spend your time blogging!

  3. What a shame about your YT account :-( I've never thought about possible downsides to effective SEO before but clearly there is at least one. I guess you can take some consolation from the fact that you can still reply to stupid reviewer comments on Amazon? ;-)

    1. Thanks. Yes, wherever stupid comments are made, I am ready with a snappy, snarky response! :)

  4. I find kinda freaky YT's ability to identify music in a video, even when it's completely untagged. Wish I was as good at Name That Tune.

    1. They are uncanny. Generally they don't do much other than issue a warning. But there are a few musical institutions that are particularly determined to protect their interested, no matter how innocently one might infringe!

  5. Berlin has its own online concert hall - excellent content albeit for a fee. It's wonderful, with hundreds of archived concerts, both audio and video. They are - naturally - protective of paid content but this Mahler concert was broadcast on TV all over Europe - it's actually a great promo for subscribing to their service.

Oh well, give 'em hell at Amazon. I fear the loonies posting @yootoob are beyond redemption.

    1. The Digital Concert Hall is very cool. I've written about it (favorably) several times here at RnR, and I even have a subscription. Unfortunately I cannot usually dedicate the time to watch a full concert. I'll probably go back to a per concert basis when my subscription is up.

I think you nailed the YT/amazon comments contrast. The Amazon ones are often stupid or ill-informed, the YT ones are usually just plain nut and/or simply UNinformed!
