Here are two songs from Schubert's Die Winterreise,
concluding the recording sessions by Daniel Behle (recently seen as Don Ottavio in that Paris Don Giovanni) and the Oliver Schnyder Trio on
June 17, 2013: "Erstarrung" and "Rückblick" in Daniel
Behle's own transcription for tenor and piano trio. They performed this live over the summer, and the recording is due
out in November.
In this video, the cello overpowers a bit, but that's because the soundtrack is what the handicam recorded, not what will be on the commercial release. Daniel Behle studied composition and trombone before settling on singing as his career. I like all the wintry tremolos from the strings, and the
biting bow sounds add some nifty brittleness to the proceedings. It must have
seemed a bit strange to be performing this cold, somewhat depressing cycle on a
bright sunny summer afternoon.
