Gratuitous Friday – Stephen Costello: Call Him Ishmael
Tenor Stephen Costello
will reprise the role of Ishmael in Jake Heggie's Moby Dick next season at
the Washington National Opera. I look forward to hearing this haunting
music and gorgeous voice live!
(He will also appear as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore)
He was impressive in Lucia. I'd like to see Moby Dick. I caught the first act on the radio when it was done in Calgary and I'd like to see the whole thing.
I have resolved this year to not miss the local live operas. I hate reading a bio of famous singer X only to discover I missed them in locally just two years before they were famous. Speaking of which, I got my ticket to see Il Viaggio al Reims at Wolf Trap in June. Quite a few up-and-comers will be singing.

DeleteYes! I saw Maya Lahyani twice recently in Salome. She's very good.
